Design
Five metres ofintent.
The MHero 817 is 5,100 mm long, 1,998 mm wide and 1,899 mm tall on a 3,005 mm wheelbase, with a ladder frame under it and 20 inch wheels on Continental 275/60 tyres. The grille is illuminated, the headlamps are adaptive matrix LEDs, the side steps retract, there is a rack on the roof and a storage box on the back. Soft close doors and privacy glass finish it.

Inside
A cockpit,not a cabin.
A 15.6 inch centre screen and a 10.25 inch driver display on a Qualcomm 8295 chip, a head up display on the windscreen, a streaming rear view mirror, and a control screen for the second row. Dynaudio HiFi through 18 speakers with active noise cancellation, 256 colours of ambient light, dual zone climate with an ioniser, and a fridge that heats as well as cools.

The seats
Massage, memory,and a boss key.
Nappa leather on the seats and the wheel, suede on the headliner. The driver's seat adjusts twelve ways with lumbar support, massage, memory and ventilation; the passenger's ten ways, with a boss key so the person in the back can move it out of the way.
Two 220 volt outlets, one for the second row and one in the boot, and 6 kW of vehicle to load. Camp lights, a fridge, a projector: the truck runs them.

The chassis
A chassis commander, and a rock solid frame under it.

VMC domain control.
One controller coordinates powertrain, braking, steering and suspension, the way it is done on luxury performance cars. Dongfeng says it is unique in the class.

CDC dampers, 500 times a second.
Continuously variable damping that responds in 0.02 seconds: composed off road, flat in corners, restful on a long drive. Double wishbones front and rear.

All aluminium chassis.
Thirty percent lighter, more than fifty percent smoother, and it will not rust. Under it, a 1,920 mm one piece hydroformed longitudinal beam, the longest in its class.
Air suspension
Up 105 mm for the river.Down 45 for the kerb.
Adaptive air suspension with 150 mm of height range across six settings. Standard clearance is 228 mm; in off-road mode it rises to 333 mm, with an approach angle of 37.7 degrees, a departure angle of 37 and a breakover of 27.3.
It climbs a 100 percent grade, wades to 900 mm with wading sensing, tows up to 3.5 tonnes with the optional towing package, on paved roads, and drops to its lowest setting to make getting in easy.
Rear wheel steering
A five metre truckthat turns like a hatchback.
The rear wheels steer up to 10 degrees. At low speed they turn against the fronts for a 5.2 metre turning radius, which is what makes a Kingston car park possible. At speed they turn with the fronts for a lane change that feels planted.
Crab mode steers all four wheels the same way, so the truck moves diagonally out of a tight space. Nine driving modes, from deep snow to wading, and an intelligent E-lock that pulls the truck free on one wheel.
The powertrain
A 1.5 litre engine, two motors, and the output of a six litre.
Dongfeng calls it a two speed, eleven mode plug-in hybrid: pure electric, range extending, engine direct drive, parallel hybrid and energy recovery, with full time or on demand four wheel drive. The 1.5 litre turbo engine runs at 45 percent thermal efficiency and a 31.7 kWh battery carries 140 km of electric driving. An 84 litre tank does the rest. DC charging takes 15 minutes from 30 to 80 percent; a home charger fills it in 4.3 hours.

Technology
Nine terrains on one screen, and a camera that sees in the dark.

M ATS all terrain system.
Deep snow, snow, mud, sand, rock, wading and auto, plus standard and sport on the road. An off-road cockpit reads pitch, roll and yaw from a six axis sensor and shows it all on the screen.

Infrared night vision.
Picks out people and animals up to 90 metres ahead in the dark. An active seatbelt tightens before an impact, a rollover, or a hard descent, and a side curtain airbag holds its pressure for 30 seconds.

Driver assistance.
Adaptive cruise and intelligent cruise assist, emergency braking, blind spot and door opening warnings, rear cross traffic braking, and a 360 degree camera with a see through view of the ground beneath the truck.

Scheduled servicing for the first three years is included. Our technicians are trained on the high voltage system, and every visit is recorded against your vehicle. Servicing is done at Bert's Service Centre, Camp Road, Kingston.
The cover beyond 5 years or 150,000 km, and the powertrain beyond 8 years or 200,000 km, is Dongfeng’s extended warranty. It is for the first owner, in private use, with every scheduled service done on time at Bert's Service Centre with genuine parts. Wear and tear parts keep their basic terms. Full conditions are in the warranty agreement supplied with the vehicle.
